Implant patients should know about risks of biological complications, professionals will be told.

A live streaming Webinar on all Guidelines from the Prevention Workshop will stress the increasing prevalence of peri-implant diseases and recommend strongly that dental professionals " inform patients accordingly before implant therapy."

The guidelines for peri-implantitis will be given in full at the Webinar by Søren Jepsen, the chairmen of the 'Prevention Workshop' working group studying Primary prevention of peri-implantitis – managing peri-implant mucositis.

Prof. Jepsen will stress that patients provided with implant-supported restorations be examined and evaluated on a regular basis.

The full guidelines to be launched live on November 9 from a Madrid television studio, an event featuring debate between all four co-chairmen of the XI European Workshop in Periodontology, will advise professionals on measures to observe before, during, and after implant placement and prosthetic reconstruction.

Smoking and other risks

One of the key guidelines to be stressed by Prof. Jepsen will be the need for implant patients to undergo individual risk assessment, with modificable risk factors such as smoking being eliminated.
